Make sure to protect your permanent marker for wires by never writing on concrete with it (use a pencil instead). It’s important to try and keep the tip intact for legible writing.
Sharpie by far makes the best permanent marker for electrical wires in my experience over the years. When working for a company, permanent markers are not obtained easily.. often your foreman requires you to hand in your old marker, or wants proof your current marker is dried out, or the tip is in bad condition. (Often your company provides markers, so do not purchase unless you have to).
At one company’s year-end party, they announced a fun fact: they spend about $10,000/year on Sharpies!
