What We Cover in This Article: list Understanding Electrical Prints for Devices and Circuits As an electrician, we typically install lights, plugs, heaters, motors, exit signs, fire alarm, and if it’s in the contract, we will run the pipe for security cameras. With that said, our first step as electricians is looking at our electrical prints. We scan them to figure out how many devices there are in a certain area, which allows us to plan for where to build a pipe rack, and how big to make it! (Maybe even make it double-sided if the area is really busy.) It’s important at this time to see what panel is powering our devices in that area. This allows us to figure out the pipe sizes, and how big of a junction box to install in the area! (These main pipes that come from our panel are sometimes called main trunk lines.) These trunk lines will typically pipe into a large junction box (12x12’s), and from there, we will pipe to other areas where only certain circuits are needed! So from that 12x12, we may pipe to another junction box which could be either a 4x4 or 6x6 depending on how many circuits are there.
